gifted

I got the official letter from the school district today that Shelby is "gifted" and will now be in the gifted and talented (GT) program. This means for the rest of the year she will receive more work on her level and then next year she will be placed in a class with other GT kids and with a teacher who is qualified to teach GT kids.  I don't think I plan to tell her what all this means. I don't want her to feel under any sort of pressure. So my kid IS smart! ;-)

Go Texan Day

Tucker prefers to wear a pull up in his head instead of his black
cowboy hat.

Lunch

Today was a BIG day for Shelby. She's been waiting for this day for a LONG time. Today was the first day she bought her lunch. She finally worked up the nerve to do it. She was so excited that she asked for Lonnie to have lunch with her today. He just sent me a few pics and I was so proud of her! Today on the menu was fish sticks! YAY SHELBY!!!

pajamas

This morning I was going to take the kids to school instead of Lonnie. It's picture day at school for Shelby and she asked that I fix her hair b/c daddy only does pony tails. So she looked rather cute in her spring outfit - non school uniform attire. Tucker on the other hand slept until it was time to leave. So I dressed him while he was sleeping until I got to his shirt. He woke up and freaked out about me taking off his shirt and babbling something about trees. I'm assuming he was dream land. So I chose not to battle this one and Tucker went to school 1/2 dressed in school clothes and 1/2 dressed in pajamas.

Chinese New Year Celebration

Sunday afternoon we went to Lee and Theresa's house to help celebrate the Chinese New Year. It's a tradition that they are going to incorporate into their family celebrations and we were excited to share in the new tradition. When we arrived, Kelsey was handing out name tags. Shelby was born the year of the monkey, Tucker was a dog, and I was a dragon. I thought, COOL! I'm a dragon! That sounds pretty tough. Yeah, it's tough...and bossy according to the chart. Leave it to my mom to tell me that it describes me to a T, and then I read what it meant. Thanks mom! LOL We had delicious hamburgers and the kids destroyed the upstairs living room. Madeleine is getting so big and of course is as cute as ever. She was a total chatter box. Not quite sure what she's saying, but she sure does! LOLLee and Theresa then passed out red envelopes to all the kids. I had a coworker tell me about this tradition and was excited to know that I too had brought a red envelope for Madeleine. Money is what is put in the envelope and even numbers are for good luck, and 6 is a lucky number. So in the red envelopes were $6. (I really need to get Shelby's bangs trimmed!)Next it was time to go outside and pop confetti streamer poppers. Here's uncle Lee helping Tucker not blow the poppers up in his face.
After playing outside we went in for some desserts. I'm not really sure what this stuff was. Theresa told me but I've since forgotten. The pink and green stuff was some sort of coconut deal and I have no idea what the clear crystal looking stuff was. But it was something of the heritage and it was very sugary. Then there were these apple tarts and OMG delicious! And then of course there's the fortune cookies! So it was a fun afternoon learning a little about the culture that Madeleine comes from! Very cool!

Popsicle

Tucker climbed on the playhouse outside to tell the ice cream man that he has a Popsicle and won't be needing his services today. Hahahahaha

892

Dear # 892 - In one week it'll be your day. The marathon you've been training for all these months will be here. You are a runner. You are a marathoner. You earned that title after running the rock 1 year ago. I know it's been a very painful few months, but you will push through. That's what you do. I can't wait to cheer you on with Kerri and the girls via the text updates. Remember your goal. Remember why you signed up. You can do this. And when you feel like giving up...keep going. Quoting one of your favorite people: Pain is Temporary, Quitting last forever-Lance Armstrong.
I am SO VERY PROUD of you Lee. I know I've told you this a million times, but I just wanted the whole world to know, again. 7 MORE DAYS!!!

Blog Layout

Well, I was going to try and come up with something creative for the spring season for the blog layout, but I'm overwhelmingly busy, so this will have to do. I still think it's cute and I thank the lady over at shabby blogs who does her stuff for free.

Just a few updates - Shelby is doing MUCH better and went back to school this week. And I think I forgot to mention a few weeks back that my nephew Jesse is home from the NICU and doing very well....except for a horrible case of colic. But who needs sleep, right??? ;-)

Thank You Cards

With Shelby being home the past few days from school, I took full advantage of her getting her 30+ thank you cards done from her birthday party. She wasn't too excited. In fact, I think she's ready to go back to school. LOL
I ordered these super cute cards from doodlebugs stationary. I love her stuff!

first communion

Today Shelby had her first communion class and took her first communion. What made it even more special was the fact that her daddy had his first communion too. :-)

Happy Valentine's Day!

making valentine's cards

On Friday we also spent part of the day making homemade valentine's cards. This took a LONG time and was finished up today.

Bologna

Tucker put his bologna high up so Archie wouldn't get it. So disgusting.

Valentine's Day Cookies

Shelby was pretty bummed about missing her valentine's day party at school on Friday so I made a few cookies and let her decorate them and that made her happy. Especially since she didn't have to share the activity with her brother. LOL
(You gotta admit her above technique at the age of 6 is impressive! LOL)

pneumonia

Shelby's been fighting the same crud that Lonnie and Tucker had for about a week. Problem is that she's not getting better. Now it's turned into pneumonia in her left lung. She's pretty miserable. So no valentine's day party at school tomorrow for her. She's pretty heartbroken so we'll have to do our own party here. I had volunteered to bring 2 dozen heart shape cookies for her class to decorate so tomorrow I'll bring them in with her valentine treat bags. I committed to the cookies so I can't back out. I do have to admit it sucks though baking all these cookies for a party Shelby won't be at.

Valentine Treats

The kiddos have valentine parties at school this week so this weekend I put together their party bags for their classes. I had to do this alone otherwise Tucker would have eaten all the candy. This year's treat bags are consisting of candy kisses, mini m&m's, sweet tarts, rice krispy treat, a set of mini playing cards, bubbles and a mini valentine card. I just filled a sandwich ziplock bag and then got these treat topper bags from hobby lobby with some red crinkle filler. I intended on making my own topper but the kids have been sick and so there's been no time.
