Today was the last game of Shelby's VB season. They closed it out with a great win. The crew is taking a break for the summer and will pick back up in September in the next higher age bracket. I hope to get her in some VB clinics over the summer.

Yes, I am THAT mom.
Instead of making the kids stay inside the entire day with their cooties and listen to them try and kill each other, I took them swimming this afternoon. My sanity was saved.

Middle School Orientation
Wow. Middle school. UGH!!! How can this be happening already?????? This week all of the 4th grade classes took a field trip to their assigned middle school for next year and then last night I went to the parent orientation. Shelby is going to Dunbar, the same middle school that I went to....26 years ago. GASP!!!! It looks NOTHING the same. I think they must have torn down the old school and rebuilt on the same property. 5th and 6th grade will go to the same school. Back in the day, it was just 6th grade. Anyway, she will have only 3 minutes to switch to each class. She will have 6 classes, each with a different teacher. Lunch won't be the same as it is in elementary school. There are several options and the kids can sit where ever in the cafeteria. PE will be everyday instead of every other day, but this year she won't have to dress out. Last year, dress code didn't allow shorts, but this year will. THANK GOD! Hello, this is Texas!!! She will have a locker this year as well. Hopefully she keeps it cleaner than her bedroom. Oh, and school starts at the crack of dawn. Seriously, if she rides the bus to school in the morning, the bus will be at our house at 6:20am. Have y'all met Shelby??? She is NOT a morning person.
One of the first things I noticed when I walked into the school were these signs hanging everywhere. No more loom bracelets for Shelby when school starts up!
She also got a haircut yesterday that makes her not look so elementary anymore. :-(

Tucker in Handcuffs
Last night was quite a night.
I was sitting in the driveway in a lawn chair trying to not listen to a phone conversation going on in the house with the kids, Lonnie and his other child. It's something VERY hard I'm dealing with and the only thing I can do right now is just go outside, shut the door, sit in the lawn chair and decompress. All of a sudden I hear terrified screaming and Shelby comes running out of the house panicking that something is wrong with Tucker. I run inside to find Tucker crumpled up on his bedroom floor screaming and crying. What. The. Heck!!!
Well it turns out that Tucker had handcuffed himself behind his back and then managed to get twisted some how while trying to get his hands in front of him. Tucker - where did you get handcuffs?????? So I run to find some bolt cutters and run back to him. He's begging me to call 911. Shelby's crying. Tucker's crying. I'm crying. Right when I'm about to cut the handcuffs, not sure if that would even work, I press something on the handcuffs accidentally and POP! The handcuffs come off.
What. A. Night.
I would have taken a picture but we were too busy freaking out. LOL

Something you won't see everyday....
Last night was literacy night at school. Shelby's friend Jayden went with us and afterwards we went to Chuy's for dinner. This is Tucker reading a book at dinner. NO PHONE OR IPAD IN HAND!!! Shocker, I know!

Tucker's 1st Grade Field Trip
Yesterday was Tucker's 1st grade field trip to the Bayou Wildlife Park. It was way more fun than the traditional zoo. We went on a tram ride throughout the park and saw all sorts of animals. From camels and rhinos to meerkats and giraffes. Camels are so gross in case you didn't know that. They are disgusting dirty animals with the slimiest grossest tongue ever. And ostriches are crazy mean!!

Mother's Day 2014
So this was my 10th mother's day. And although I would say it wasn't perfect, I will still say it was great because I spent it with my kids. Even though I was exhausted after the girl scout weekend, and numb from it being yet another "holiday" in the first year of being divorced, and the kids fought like cats and dogs just like any other day, it was still good. I spent it with my mom who is awesome and my dad who cooked great shrimp for us. One day soon they won't be fighting like cats and dogs. One day soon they won't want to hang out with me all the time. One day soon I will no longer get awesome homemade gifts. So I will cherish the exhausting frustrating day and be happy that I have such a great family. Grumpy moods and all. :-)

Camp Casa Mare 2014
I spent mother's day weekend camping with "my girls". My troop girls that is. We used this weekend to complete our campers badge, jewelers badge, and our service project. The girls got along great and it was actually quite relaxing since we were on the water.
This was our view. These are other girl scouts out sailing. Once Shelby turns 11 she will get to go to Mariner Camp and learn how to sail her own sunfish. How cool is that???!!!
Girls making rainbow loom bracelets as part of their jeweler badge.
Gaga ball pit - kind of like dodgeball.
Midnight Bowling Pins
Girls cutting, knotting and braiding tshirts into dog toys for the animal shelter.
Girls painting washers and bolds as part of their jeweler badge.
Troop Cabin
Caylee, Rachel and Shelby posing at the dorm they stayed in last year at summer camp.

Camping on the Bay
"Camping" on the bay is sooooo much better than camping in the woods. The breeze has been wonderful and the view has been perfect. It's 9:30pm and the girls are currently sitting in circle telling ghost stories. This should be an interesting night. Ha!!

Dirt Cake
This weekend Shelby and I are heading out for a Girl Scout camp with our troop. When we were making our camp menu for the weekend, 2 things the girls all agreed that they wanted dirt cake for dessert instead of s'mores and bacon. I'm not about to let 10 year olds fry up bacon so I cooked it up tonight ahead of time. 2.5 pounds of bacon. I think frying 2.5 pounds of bacon is a diet trick. It seriously makes you never want to cook, smell or eat bacon again. I think my house will smell like bacon for a month now! As for the dirt cake it just so happens that my neighbor Julie had made it tonight for dessert at her house and brought us one over. How cool is this???? This is what the girls will be making tomorrow except without the flowers. It's a crumbled brownie (which I baked tonight too!), chocolate pudding, and crushed Oreo mixed together and then add in gummy worms.

Say what????
We passed this sign over the weekend and at a very quick glance we all thought it said "sh_t cakes". So I decided to pull in and ask the guy at the drive thru how to pronounce the sign. Apparently that was unbelievable pure embarassement for all the kids I had toting around in my car. It. Was. Awesome!!! But at least we all now know the correct pronounciation is sh-tock-ee.

Strawberry Festival 2014
I managed to take only 1 photo at the Strawberry Festival this year and it was of my parents taking a much needed break. The festival was much more exhausting this year. I had over 50 student and scout volunteers which I thought would be much more helpful, but it really wasn't. It was just more kids whining. LOL
Aren't they so cute!
