FW: Just wanted to let you know

I received this email this morning and I thought HOW SWEET!!! Makes me so proud of Shelby! So even though she drove me crazy this morning and whined and complained about being tired, her hair, her socks, her brother…she truly is a great kid!

Jamie,

All too often, we hear about when our kids screw up. I wanted to let you know about what an awesome kid you have in Shelby. Yesterday, Kennedy got her 100 points from her summer reading. She was nervous people were going to call her a nerd, but she was still super proud of herself. Shelby told her that she was proud of her and it meant the world to Kennedy.

What an amazing thing for a kid to say to a friend! Shelby is a great kid and I'm really glad she's friends with Kennedy!

Shelby and Lonnie's Road Trip

A few weekends ago, Lonnie and Shelby took a little road trip together to central and south Texas. Their mission was to hit as many places in the odd ball book they could like I did with Shelby a few weekends prior to that. Since I wasn't there, I can't tell you where all these locations were, but they were in the car for 3 adventurous days with a major snafu.

Night 1 was spent at the Menger Hotel in San Antonio. Lonnie didn't tell Shelby how it's the most haunted hotel in Texas until the next morning. Fortunately she handled that well. As the day went on, they stopped at the Magic Time Machine for lunch. During that time, someone broke into Lonnie's truck and stole all their stuff. Work laptop, ipad, clothes, everything. So after dealing with the police and having to go shopping for clothes and everything else, they finally got back on the road and headed to Austin. Having the truck broken into was reallllllly traumatic for Shelby but Lonnie kept her going and showed her that it was just a bump in the road (although in the background Lonnie was of course furious! LOL).

So eventually I will get the shutterfly book made up for Shelby with all these crazy places, but in the mean time, here are photos of their trip.

School Mornings

The first day of school excitement has worn off. It wore off after the first day. I helped Tucker get dressed this morning and then went to put on my makeup. When I came back out, he was sound asleep on the couch. Shelby in the mean time is in the bathroom crying about her hair. I'm not a fan of mornings. Not. A. Fan.

1st day of school 2013-2014

Well it's the last first day of elementary school. Shelby is now a 4th grader. And apparently 4th graders do not "need" parents to take them to class. I didn't cry on the outside but was whaling on the inside. So off Shelby went with her little friends to roam the halls while I took Tucker to 1st grade.

Last day of Summer 2013

Yesterday we had a back to school swim party at the YMCA for our Girl Scout troop. I guess everyone thought it was cancelled because of the rain but it actually never rained on us and we only had 4 girls come!

Astros Game

Shelby's dance troop performed at the Astros game tonight. It was $1.00 hot dog night (cha-ching) and they had a spectacular fire works show at the end. It was an awesome winning game and we had a blast...except the 4 innings Lonnie temporarily lost his work cell.

Karmin concert

Took Shelby to see Karmin (not to be confused with Carmen) and the Jonas Brothers tonight. The place was dead! I would say at maybe 25% capacity. But Shelby was VERY happy since Karmin is her favorite band ever. She sang her heart out. I'm not sure if she will have a voice in the morning.

1st sleepover

Tucker has his first sleepover at a friend's house tonight. I'm going to miss my baby!!! :-(

More Oddball Texas

Here are some other places that we've checked out that are within an hour from home.

This is the teepee hotel out in Wharton. When we went to check it out we were told that the new owner won the lottery and refurbished the teepees.

This was a dinosaur park in Wharton. We are learning there is a lot of dinosaur history in Texas.

And this is the really big trumpet that's in Galveston.
