Tucker's PreK Graduation May 2011

Here are some photos from Tucker's preK graduation last week. Zooming in from the back of the cafeteria really gives some crummy shots. :-( Anyway, graduation lasted TWO HOURS. What the heck???? I felt like I was at a college graduation! And I am just not ready for that with this one! So Tucker is now a preK graduate and moving up into kindergarten in the fall at Kid City. Today he went on a field trip to the Moody Gardens with his class. Just so we are all clear, he is still a BABY.

Graduation

More pics to follow this weekend, but here's a snap shot from Tucker's graduation last night. (Thank you Miss Leah - I borrowed this from your FB page!) I'm proud to say I did not cry when Tucker ran across the stage to get his diploma and them announce he plans to be a race car driver when he grows up. He was all proud....and then pissed when he opened the scroll and it was a blank sheet of paper. LOL

pool party time

It's so hard to believe that the end of the school year is approaching. As of today, Shelby only has 1 week left! So does she officially become a 2nd grader once school is out, or not until the actual first day of 2nd grade? Well, it's time to get ready for the annual end of school year pool party. This is always a fun event! Should prove to be a little more interesting this year since the kids are getting older...and a little more... mature?!? Not sure if that's the right word I'm looking for. Anyway, here's the invitation I had made up.

Gator Games

Today was Shelby's Gator Games, aka field day, at school. We weren't able to take off to attend, so Mimi stepped in and went to the games. (Thanks Mom!) She took some cute photos of Shelby with her friends.

Captain America

Tonight he is Captain America. :-)

Last soccer game

Saturday was our last soccer game of the spring 2011 season. (cue choir - Halllllelujia!!) We will be taking a break from summer sports, other than swimming, due to 100* weather soon to approach. I'm not sure what we will do in the fall for Shelby. I'm not so sure if soccer is her game. But I think Tucker is ready to start back up. He will be 5 in the fall and has come a long way since last fall in the listening dept. Not that he listens still, but we know how to handle it better. Hahahaha!

I found this very cool water bottle at academy on Saturday that not only you drink from, but has a spray mist pump too. Tucker loved this bottle so much that he did a good job of keeping us all cool with the mister.

After the game the coaches had pizza on the pavilion for everyone and passed out the trophies.

And then this was about the time my camera battery died and I had to rely on my phone camera. Ick!

a few updates on our smart kids

1- Shelby took a test earlier in the week to determine if she's ready for 2nd grade. She was having a bad day and apparently did fine (in our mind) and ranked at a 3rd grade level. But she was very upset about it and thought she could do better, and apparently the teacher thought so too. So she retested yesterday. Yes, she's ready for 2nd grade. She ranked at 6th grade! I really don't know much about these tests. I think it's all based on literature and comprehension. No math is involved. So I'm thinking this means she's ranking at a 6th grade level on that. She did score the highest which was what was most important to her.

2- Tucker's teacher advised me yesterday he should start the private kindergarten program in the fall. My dear friend Tiffany was in there with me and she's going to do the same thing with her son. I didn't think Tucker was ready, but Miss Amy said that he is way too bored and already knows what they are teaching and he's most definitely ready. So I think we are going to do it. And if he doesn't do well, it's not like we are holding him back for kindergarten in 2012-2013. This will just give him a jump start. So I'm walking out to the car thinking, WOW! Tucker starting Kindergarten in the fall??? I never saw that one coming. And then I turn and what do I see Tucker doing? ........ Licking the rain water off the expedition. Umm, realllllly????

Strawberry Festival 2011

I think we have all somewhat recovered from the Strawberry Festival this past weekend at church. Lonnie and I helped mom and dad with their traditional hotdog/nacho/bbq sandwiches/sausage on a stick booth. And this was also the first year for Shelby to work a booth with her Brownie troop. It was also the first year that I let Shelby wonder the festival without me. Since it's a small festival and all of the Holy Trinity family keeps an eye on all the kids, I felt safe enough to allow this at our own church. It was a HUGE milestone and she absolutely LOVED the freedom of not having a hovering mom follow her.
