Old School Games
The Easter bunny delivered this Cahootie Game in Shelby's Easter basket this year.
I tried to explain to her that we made these when I was a kid in school along with this fun game called Mash. This weekend Shelby's got a few girls staying the night so I decided to create both of these games up for the girls to play. I found a cute template for the cootie (not cahootie) game and used it.

Easter
Easter has come and gone. I loved how the kids understood the true meaning behind Easter this year, and it wasn't all about the Easter bunny.
We did color eggs and leave them out for the bunny, and the kids got easter baskets full of neat stuff. Tucker's was filled with all superhero squad stuff (his new love) and chocolate. Shelby's was filled full of camp stuff and chocolate.
I learned my lesson this year and will never make the mistake again of letting Tucker eat chocolate before church. He was in full on Tucker mode, which we hadn't seen this wild in a while. Lately in church he had been pretty good of not scaling the pews and running all over the alter during the service. He had been busy drawing and staying still these past few weeks. But not Easter Sunday.
The kids had an Easter egg hunt after the service and then we spent the rest of the afternoon vegging. We went to dinner at my parents and the kids were able to swim (yes, in April!). It was a nice relaxing Easter...well, except for the energizer bunny who never slowed down until he crashed at 8pm.

Sight Words
Lately Tucker goes around the house testing himself with what words start with. Ball starts with B. ba ba ba ball. So I've decided it's time for him to start learning sight words. Shelby was reading at 4, so maybe Tucker can too. But in our house, sight cards, card games, heck even puzzle pieces get lost in our house easily. So over the weekend I bought a spiral bound book of note cards and created Tucker's own sight word book. It's got a year's worth of kindergarten sight words, so maybe when he starts Kindergarten in 16 months he will be ahead of the game.

Tucker's music teacher emailed me this photo from this past month's lesson on the guitar. He loves this class!

Strawberry Festival
2 weeks from today is the Annual Strawberry Festival. Come out for some great bbq and homemade shortcake! My family and I will be on the back pavillion working in the same place as usual. This will also be Shelby's first year to work! She will be working the games with her fellow girl scouts during the 2nd shift!

Dishes
I'm so happy I could cry!!! Shelby decided she wants to start doing the dishes. She thinks it's fun. I'm going to take full advantage of this as long as I can!!!!!
We found Mater!!!!
A couple of months ago Lonnie was driving through Rusk and passed this car lot that had Mater. So on our way to see Thomas the Train, which was in Rusk, we went right by the lot and hung out with Mater for a bit. This Mater was FAR BETTER than the one at Disney World!!

Soccer Season
We're in the middle of soccer season this year. Not a lot of photos this season it seems. Shelby has the same coach as last season, which we love. Lonnie says he reminds him of Vince Vaughn. LOL Unfortunately after one of the games one of Shelby's teammates yelled she sucked. That of course mortified her but we wouldn't let her quit. So we hired her a "soccer tutor." Her name is Hailey and she's awesome. We've had 2 practice sessions with her and have already seen an improvement. Shelby was lacking some confidence on the field but it has improved now. I think it helps that Hailey is a pretty high school teenager who has played soccer since she was 3 and she's really good. So it's someone for Shelby to look up to.

Railroad Crossings
Tucker has this obsession with railroad crossing signs. He even loves to draw them. Everywhere. Like on my bed sheets.

Day out with Thomas
Saturday we took Tucker to Rusk, TX to do the Day out with Thomas. This time Shelby didn't go. She said it was boring and for boys (although at the last minute she nearly changed her mind). She stayed back with Mimi and Poppy and did girl scout stuff and soccer. The trip was VERY easy. Hello, 1 kid = easy breezy!!! Tucker had a blast but I'm pretty sure this was our last time for the Day out with Thomas.

Day out with Thomas
I know I said we would never ever go back again. But we are. Tomorrow. This time just me, Lonnie and Tucker. Shelby doesn't want to go, plus she has a girl scout camping event to go to. So she will be staying back with Mimi and Poppy. I'm thinking this is the last hoo-rah for Thomas. Something tells me he's about to get into superheros.

It's a big day!
Lonnie and Shelby went to do something very special today! They got Shelby's ears pierced! She didn't cry at all but said it did hurt.

Uh-oh!! We are in some SERIOUS trouble. Lonnie is probably not going to share in my HUGE EXCITEMENT!!!! I just saw this in the Houston Chronicle!!! "Disney Cruise Line will announce Wednesday morning that the Disney Magic will sail 12 seven-night cruises from the Port of Galveston to the Western Caribbean beginning Sept. 22, 2012. Ports of call include Grand Cayman and Mexico's Costa Maya and Cozumel." Sooooooooooooooooooooo excited that Disney Cruises will be 15 minutes away!!!
