Family Game Night

We tried to do family game night last night. It was the first time we played UNO. Shelby would have won the first game early on but I had her keep going so Tucker could catch on since it was his first time. She wasn't a fan of that. So she cried until the game was over...which she won. So we played again and then Tucker won. She cried. Really??? Mom and Lonnie make fun of me ALL THE TIME that she gets this from me and then I have to hear the story for the 1,482,827,389th time that I use to hide the old maid card. Whatever. I remember it differently.

So then we played another game called "would you rather" because there's no way she could lose. Right? Wrong! Tucker LOVES this game and picks the worst choice each time. So then we pull this card. Look at question 2. Shelby was so angry she quit the game. It was very hard not to laugh!!

Shelby's school box

Note to self.... Do not take on a craft project on a week night ever again. I think the people at Michael's know us far too well. And they ALL know that Tucker will never stay near me in that store. Thank goodness it's small. I can call Tucker and one of the employees will say he's on aisle 13 Mrs. Blevins. That would be where the model car kits are.

So anyway, here we go. The first picture shows you a box. We've got several of these. I just forgot to photo the one I used ahead of time. Then we pulled out all 30+ rolls of duct tape and got to work. Shelby now has a quite stylish school supply box instead of a generic plastic one.

Kid City talent show

Yesterday when I picked Tucker up from Kid City they told me Tucker signed up at the last minute to be in the talent show...which is today. Really? What kind of talent will he be showing off? Dancing. Oh. Lord.  Well Lonnie and I both couldn't go (last minute doesn't quite work well with our schedules) but Mimi to the rescue went and got it on video for us. Who knew my kid was into break dancing OR Michael Jackson! You can't hear the music but you can totally see him dancing. He's the kid in the grey shirt. Looks like Tucker will be joining funanza with Shelby when school starts up again. LOL

Photos from Camp

Here are some photos Shelby took with her camera from camp. She's not in a whole lot of them so I only posted a few of these.

She had a good time. She was quite homesick, but other then that she had fun. The rain didn't slow them down at all. It kept them from getting to the slide and blob in the lake, but they still had tons of other activities. They kept them quite busy and had very little down time. Sadly she has some severe blisters and about 20 fire ant bites, but other then that, she's just fine. I'm not sure if she will do GS camp next year again. If she does, it would be at Camp Casa Mare, closer to home, and in dorms, and not in the woods. But when we went to church Sunday she heard all the kids that just got back from Camp Allen talk about how much fun it was and she's pretty set on wanting to go there next summer with the group from church. So we shall see. I don't have to sign her up for 8 months, so we have plenty of time to decide.

This week she's off to hip hop dance camp, but it's only a day camp, 9am-4pm.

Camp pick up!

Ok. I'm not gonna lie. I cried when I was finally able to get to her. Shelby said she had so much fun she wants to go to camp casa mare and camp misty meadows next summer!!!

Camp Letter

Of course we get a letter on the last day of camp after worrying all week, about how much fun she is having! Would have been nice to get this earlier in the week! LOL

Fwd: Week 4 Weather Update

Just received this email from Camp. I'm sure the rain is miserable in the tent, but it's much better then being hot all day in 100+ degree temps. All this rain has kept it in the 70's at night, and 80's during the day up there.

Althought I want to jump in the car and go get her right now, it won't kill either of us to wait 2.5 more days. I just hope she doesn't hate me when she gets home. LOL

Hi Parents!

We just wanted to update you on the weather this week. As we're sure most of you are aware, we've had quite a bit of rain this week- have no fear though, we do have rainy day activities in place and the girls are still having a great time. Some of my personal favorite moments at camp as a child were on rainy days! The only issue we run into with rain like this is on check out days. If you are having trouble getting up to camp to pick up your child, please call the camp (phone numbers are below) and let us know. If we need to watch your child for additional time while you make your way up to camp, we can certainly do that.

With all the rain, we have received a few calls and emails from concerned parents. I wanted to assure you that the safety and well-being of your camper is our first priority. We will continue to monitor the situation and at this time, we see no threat or danger to camp-other than a few wet clothes! If you are uncomfortable at any time and would like to pick your child up early, please call the camp your child is at and we can make arrangements to have your child packed and ready to go for you.

Care package 2

So today is Wednesday and Shelby will be receiving her 2nd care package today. I'm sorry I can't rotate the 1st pic. I've tried so many different ways and it keeps coming up like this. But you can get the just of it. This care package will include calling cards for her to pass out to her new friends with her photo and phone # on it, disposable camera to take pics of her new friends, glow in the dark slinky, games like truth or date and checkers to play with her bunk mates while it's raining (ugh!), a white out board, a magazine and a few other random things.

Before we dropped Shelby off I took photos of the menu and agenda board. This photo is of the evening agenda. Now I see why Shelby came back last year a stinky mess. Holy cow they only have showers on Thursday night!!! They consider daily swimming in the pool and lake their baths. One night they have a hair washing party at the lake. Grosssssss! (Shelby is in Tall Timbers)

Care Package 1

Since Shelby is at camp this time for a week instead of 3.5 days, I decided that I would make her 2 care packages. She will be receiving this package today (Monday) after her first night away. Last year she had a really tough first night, but after that, she had so much fun that she forgot about the tear jerker letter she mailed to us by the time we picked her up. I'm sure she would be sending the same letter again this year, so that's why I waited for her stationary to come today, after her first night came and went. ;-)

(PHOTO REMOVED)

Shelby loves stationary stuff, so I thought she would like these personalized camp note cards to write home on. Hopefully she has plenty for next year b/c I spent way too much on these. I'll never do that again! (LOL - remind me I said that next summer.)
And of course I had to get her this clipboard-folder-notepad dohickey from Justice. Too cute!
The girl is seriously obsessed with duck tape these days. So I found these cute little sample packets at target that I thought could tie her over until she gets home.

Then I found this super fun game that says would you rather A or B. They have down time everyday and I thought this might be fun with her bunk mates.

Then of course some fun smelly pens and a fun book with crazy facts. She loves that sort of stuff.

Sunday camp drop off

Well we just dropped Shelby off at camp. We were a little nervous to find out when we got there that Shelby is not in a cabin this year. She's in a platform tent. So it's a tent over a deck. She does have a bed and a shelf to put her stuff on. There are 4 girls per tent and her friend Caylee is in the tent with her. She was upset at first but once we put her bed together and mosquito net up she felt a lot better.

After that we walked around camp and checked out the new water slide at the lake. There were tons of canoes and paddle boats and the big blob that you bounce off of into the lake. When we left, the girls were gathering to play getting to know you games and then they were going to swim until dinner time.

It was tough for me leaving her tonight. Normally I'm the one who is dry and Lonnie is all sad but the tables were turned tonight. I know she's going to have a blast and she's going to be too tired to care that she's not in the cabin. It's not like the cabin is air conditioned. Let's just all pray that none of the girls bring any food into the tent which brings in unwelcomed visitors.
