Back to school 2012

Then it was off to school. Funny how we see everyone we know living in such a "small town". Tucker's teacher has soooo much energy and personality. I think he's going to love her. Shelby is going into a grade that seems so much more grown up. I couldn't take a ton of pics of her and kiss all over her like I could Tucker. I didn't want to embarrass her. LOL I managed not to cry when I left Tucker. I hope he remembers he has a lunch in his backpack. I so badly want to go meet him for lunch but they don't recommend it for kindergarteners the first week. 7 more hours until pick up. :-)

Shelby's off to 3rd grade and Tucker's off to kindergarten. :-(
Shelby was up at 6:30am. Tucker was forced to get out of bed at 7:15am. Breakfast was orange rolls and milk.

Teacher Gifts

Why haven't any of my friends who are teachers tell me they get gifts on the first day of school? This is news to me! News that Shelby sprung on me at 8pm tonight telling me we had to get her teacher a gift for the first day of school and she's "always the only one" who doesn't get the teacher a gift. Why couldn't she tell me this during the daytime hours? You know, like when I'm not a mess and in pajamas??? So this is what was whipped up. Hershey kisses in mason jars. Not so cute but it will have to do.

I'm so ready for school to start. Shelby is killing me with all these "must haves" for school. Let school begin already!!!! I bought Shelby this backpack about a month or so ago. They have to have clear or mesh backpacks.

So at first they sent me the wrong one. It had a lime green peace sign. Still cute though. Anyway, I called them, they sent me out another one, this time correct, and told me to keep the other one too. COOL! Yeah, no. Zippers have broken off on both of them already and school hasn't even started. So we just went to academy and bought her a purple mesh backpack. Note to self - NEVER go to academy the weekend before school starts. People were THROWING shoes at each other in the shoe dept. Really people???? 

We met both Tucker and Shelby's teachers on Thursday night. Both seem great so far. I don't know anything about Shelby's 3 teachers but since she's in GT she's with all the same kids from the past 2 years which is great. Tucker's teacher also has a studen teacher for the entire semester. And man do they have a rowdy bunch. But maybe that's just kindergarten. His teacher went to SFA and she's been teaching for 10 years. She seems so awesome and was highly recommended so I begggggggged for her and got her. :-)

Oh and a quarter update. Well, this past week has been a rough week and the kids saw that we mean business.  I think they have lost about 10 quarters each in the past few days. And on another note, Shelby and Lonnie had strep throat this past week! UGH!

Back to school party 2012

Last weekend we hosted a back to school swim party for a few of Shelby's friends. Normally we do an end of school year swim party but we left for vacation the day after Shelby got out of school. It was a very fun relaxed party and a little rain didn't bother us at all.

Tucker's 1st Dentist Appt

Wednesday was a very busy day for us. I took the day off to take Tucker to his first dentist appointment. I know we are way behind schedule, but you all know Tucker, so you all know why I would wait. To my huge surprise, Tucker laughed the ENTIRE visit. Thank goodness!!! Oh, and no cavities!

Before the dentist we went and bought Tucker new school shoes. I am not a fan of high tops (do they even call them that anymore?) but he insisted on these shoes (see his feet in dentist pic). He got another pair of regular Nike's that are grey and lime green and a lime green backpack. $140 for 2 pairs of shoes and a backpack. Yes, he's a Blevins alright!

Then it was off to lunch. Seriously who stole my kids and gave me these sweet kiddos??? I'm telling you that quarter jar is a miracle!!! My kids NEVER sit next to each other at a restaurant!

Then it was off to cool cuts for Tucker's hair cut. Normally my mom takes him, or I take him to great clips. But since it was back to school time, and there was no wait (which is like winning the lottery!!), so we went in. He wanted spiky hair this time, so that's what he got.

After that we went to register both kids for school. Shelby found out she has Mrs. Ladner, and all her classmates from her class last year are in the same class. Yay! And after A LOT of begging and pleading and reminding of how awesome of a student Shelby is, I was able to get Tucker into Mrs. Rolf's class. Her class was technically already full, but I got him in and I'm so happy. She will definitely be able to challenge Tucker the way he needs. Afterwards we went home and Shelby was so pumped about school, she insisted we sort through all the school supplies. So that's what we did.

Saying "fire in the hole" is not appropriate to say when passing gas. Although it is funny, it is not funny when said during church for all to hear. And next time in chapel, please don't ask your Sunday school teachers if Jesus "farts or gets diarrhea." Let's save those questions for home. Thanks.

Consequence Jar - Update

Well it’s been 1 full week since we started the quarter consequence jar. A full week of pure …. AMAZINGNESS!! It was like someone stole our children and replaced them with new ones. Helpful, sweet, full of manners, holy cow it was fab.u.lous!!! I seriously figured they would lose at least ½ their quarters within 3 days but they totally proved me wrong. Tucker lost zero quarters and Shelby only lost one, and that was on Saturday. You would have thought her world was coming to an end but she pulled it together and shined like a superstar after she finally calmed down. So here we begin week 2 and I have to go get 2 more rolls of quarters at some point today. I really thought I’d have at least $10 in quarters already that I would reuse but they proved us wrong!

Today, Payton from school paid Tucker $1.00 so she could be his girlfriend for the day. LOL

Consequence Jar

We started a new system at the Blevins' house on Monday. My kids did me in this weekend. Enough that I cried. Enough that I wanted to come back to work...and I hate work right now.

So I came up with a system. I saw all these consequence jars on pinterest, but those things just weren't going to work for us. So I came up with my own system.

Each child gets a roll of quarters. That's $10. Everytime they fight, yell at me/mimi/daddy, don't do their chores (which is only to clean up their own messes and feed the pets), or don't sleep in their own bed (this is mainly for Tucker), they have to give us a quarter. And at the end of the week, if they have any quarters left, then they get to keep the money and save or spend how they want. But I will NOT be buying duck tape, or pokemon cards, or whatever junk it is they always want at the store. That's what this money is for. Good Lord. My kids have been perfect angels for 2 days now. Crazy nice. My house is clean. There's been ZERO fighting. OMG it's a miracle!!!!! We have yet to take 1 quarter. And here I thought the quarters wouldn't last 3 days!!!!!!  Mimi and Lonnie were so shocked by their awesome behavior that they gave them more quarters! Dear God, please let this work...AND LAST!!! Up until this weekend I felt like I lost all control over the kids. Now I'm back and in charge! LOL
