Road Trip - North Texas

At the beginning of summer this year Shelby found this book that talked about weird places in Texas. We thought it would be fun to take a few road trips this summer and check out a few of the places out of the book. I told Shelby we would take photos of her at all the places and then make a shutterfly book with all the articles and photos. This past weekend the kids and I hopped in the expedition and headed for a trip of discovery in North Texas. Most of you know, I am a planner. I do not do things on a whim. I do not just go with the flow. I have to have everything mapped out to a T. Well, that did not happen with this trip. I went against the Jamie-norm, and just headed out without a hotel even booked. GASP!!!

First stop - Sam Houston statue in Huntsville. This is a very bad photo of Shelby but it's soooooooo funny. I parked next to the sign that says NO PARKING. Shelby was a mess over it. She was in tears b/c I was breaking the law. Not to mention she was freaking out over us being near all the prisons and someone would break out of prison and steal her while posing with Sam. I tried to get her to get out another mile down the road to pose with the roadsign that said not to pick up hitchhikers but she refused. LOL
Second stop was at Bucee's. The big massive gas station that is more like a mall and the cleanest public restrooms ever! We are now officially Texas Trash and bought a Bucee's beaver shirt. I have no idea what town this was in. Somewhere off of I-45 north of Huntsville.
Third stop was Italy. This is some closed up arcade that was the shape of a star trek spacecraft.

Fourth Stop was in Glen Rose at Dinosaur Valley State Park. This was a very cool park. We had a picnic along the river and then walked along the valley of rocks. In the rocks are real dinosaur foot prints. It was sooooo cool. Shelby was super paranoid that Tucker was going to fall off the cliff and into the river so we didn't stay very long.

Fifth stop was in Lipan off some county road. We found the world's largest rocking chair. This was outside a rustic furniture store that was sooooooooooooooooooo awesome. I wanted to buy everything. Tucker loved the store b/c they had a dog that hung out inside so he made a new friend.

All of those stops took up most of the day. We ended up in Fort Worth and got a hotel at the Embassy Suites. Apparently my kids do not stay in many hotels b/c they thought the Embassy Suites was a 5 star luxury hotel since it had a pond with fish inside. LOL

Some good friends told us we had to try In-N-Out Burger while we were here. So we did that and the kids were in hog heaven with the burgers. I thought it was ok. It was fast food. How good can it really be???
The next morning we woke up and headed out to find the bicycle tree in Fort Worth. We searched for this place for 30 minutes. I was about to give up until we finally found the tree. It was in someone's backyard!! So this was all I could with the photo. I wasn't about to crawl through the fence and make Shelby pose. She would have died on the spot.

We then headed to find the snow cone house that was in Fort Worth, but later found out that was torn down after we drove for a near hour looking for that one!

Then we headed off for Paris. Seriously - VERY.COOL.TOWN! What was not cool though were the huge siren bullhorns on very large posts which we finally figured out was their tornado sirens. SCARY!
Back in the car again, we headed to Sulphar Springs and went to cowtown. I swear all of north Texas excluding Dallas is cowtown. Cow pasteurs EVERYWHERE. I can't even tell you how many county roads we drove on and it felt like we were driving thru someone's back yard. Dodging cows, horses, and goats. I tried to get Shelby to pose with a real cow since they were within petting distance but she refused. Something about it being illegal????? Tucker would have probably done it if I didn't have the ipad in the vehicle. He was too wrapped up in minecraft. And apparently after seeing 1000 cows in 10 minutes, he was done looking at other cows.

This is Tucker touching the utter. He did it to embarrass Shelby. She was so mad! LOL

Then our final destination was the Salt Palace in Grand Saline. This was a huge salt rock that was disgustingly dirty so you know Shelby refused to lick it. LOL

Overall, we had a blast. I was so proud of myself for just going with the flow and not having a plan. The kids were cracking me up the entire time. Thankfully they got along. I had to endure listening to the Teen Beach movie soundtrack the entire time but it was worth it.

Camp Allen - Mom's Camp

This past weekend I went to a retreat at Camp Allen called a Summer Camp for Mom's. I was hesitant at first to go, but with some encouragement from Rev. Stacy, I decided to go. I am soooooooo glad I did because I had a fantastic time. I signed for several activities, which were all in door. Mainly because I didn't want to be out in the heat with the mosquitos, but it also ended up raining a lot so I was thankful to be indoors. I painted on canvas, made jewelry, made soaps and sea salt scrub, went to a "wine & doodle" class, and just had a fantastic lazy time. I most definitly will go again next year.

(I didn't finish the anchor painting, but I will be able to finish it up at home.)

Kid City going to circus today!

Just in case someone tries to steal the cuteness today at the circus, he has instructions to find another mommy and show them his tummy. Sharpie!!

The Paint Pub

I went out with the girls last night to the paint pub. What a fun fun time! I'm not a big fan of the painting of the night but it was called "leaf me alone" which was a perfect theme for the evening. LOL

July 4th

We spent the morning of July 4th at the League City citizen appreciation festival. We didn't stay too long though since it was 100*. We spent the rest of the day napping and swimming. :-)
