Shelby is deep in the middle of club volleyball season and loving every bit of it. I'm loving every bit of it. I love the time spent with her and the time spent with my mom who comes to all the tournaments with us. She has grown so much as a player and a leader. Her last tournament (Power League 3) was great. The girls had a sweep in their bracket. Then as we were leaving they had the girls play "1 more game" (after playing 3 solid games/6 sets with zero breaks) to a team that had only played 1 game and was fresh and energized. The girls had to play 3 sets and ended up losing on the 3rd set. But that was an unplanned game in a different bracket, and I think they would have done much better had they just been given some time to rejuvenate with some food and Gatorade. They were also short 2 players and another player was playing with a fractured hand. Either way, I'm very proud. These girls are drastically improving with every tournament.

Aggieland Classic 2017
This past weekend Shelby had a volleyball tournament at Texas A&M. VB tournaments are an all day event. The girls lost...pretty bad...but it was still a lot of fun. Shelby's coach isn't the best with team spirit so I've taken it upon myself to pump the girls up. So before each match I gave them a pep talk and reminded them of their love for VB. With each match they improved. I made spirit sticks for all the girls, so the girls had a loud fun cheering section this tournament. I passed them out to each parent and hopefully they will remember them for the next tournament.

1st volleyball tournament with GCVA
Once December gets here, we hit the ground running with the busiest part of the calendar year. We kicked off the month with Shelby's first weekend tournament with GCVA at Spike Sport. Let me just say, volleyball tournaments are soooooooooo much easier to tolerate than dance competitions. The team didn't do so well out of the 8 games, but I think it was a good eye opener for them, and helped them realize as a TEAM what they need to work on. After the tournament the girls found themselves having to do A LOT of jump burpees at practices now.
I wanted to get the team something to help build some team love so for Christmas so I had my friend Dianna make these super cute ornaments personalized with each girls' name on it and the uniform colors. It was most definitely a great hit with the girls!

Team pow-wow
Tonight's the night before Shelby's first club volleyball tournament with GCVA. She loves her coach. She's still getting to know her team so she's pretty quiet at practices. The team is excited for tomorrrow. We have to be there at 7:30am. Eek!!

School VB
Volleyball season is almost over at school. Unfortunately at the beginning of the season Shelby managed to dislocate her kneecap and had to sit out 6 weeks, which was half the season. She's not playing her strongest but she still loves it, unless she's having a bad game. I'm thinking once club season starts next month things will change in her game.

Summer Volleyball - July 2016
Shelby had 2 different volleyball camps in July. The first one was at Rice University. This camp was crazy expensive, but worth every.single.penny. She was there for 8 hours a day, for 5 days. Each day was a skills camp. Day 1 was serving, Day 2 was setting, Day 3 was defense, Day 4 was hitting, Day 5 was passing. Shelby made some great friends while she was there from all over the area. This camp drastically enhanced Shelby's performance.
Two weeks after the Rice Camp it was time to go to her school volleyball camp. Her school, along with 2 other schools, had their teams come together for a week for practice and scrimmages.
Shelby's love for volleyball has grown over the last few years and she's turned into a pretty great player. I finally agreed to let her try out for club volleyball. We researched several clubs and decided that she would try out with GCVA. We've heard some great things about the organization and the price was reasonable. So in July, I'm pretty sure I was more nervous than her, Shelby tried out along with tons of other girls. There were only a few slots left so I wasn't allowing myself to get my hopes up. But she made it!!! We had to contain our excitement until we got into the car! She begins Sunday drills this weekend and then once school volleyball is over, the team starts practicing several days a week.

SFA Volleyball Camp
This summer is the summer Shelby wants to up her VB skills. She's decided this is what she wants to do at the college level. Next month she will try out for club volleyball, which makes me unbelievably nervous. She is signed up for multiple volleyball camps this summer. The first week Shelby was out of school she went to volleyball camp at SFA. This was just a 3 day camp, but it was intense, and she loved every single minute of it.
Once she returned from SFA camp, she was off the Dickinson HS's volleyball camp. Not near as intense, but she still had a great time. This week she was supposed to be at a VB camp at YMCA, but that got rescheduled. Next week she will be at Rice University for a week long VB camp. Once she returns, she will then have a week off at her dad's, then she will be back for her VB club tryout at GCVA. After that it's her school VB camp.

I know these pics aren't the best but I have to say how proud I am of Shelby and how far she has come in volleyball. She has decided this is what she wants to excel in. She practices every single day to improve herself. She leaves today for volleyball camp at SFA and then has 3 more camps booked (Rice University, YMCA, and school).

Jammers Win for the season!
Shelby played volleyball at the YMCA this past season yo keep her skills up. Her team had a tournment recently to end their spring season and they came out in first place. YMCA volleyball and school volleyball is far different from each other. I want to yell at the girls from the sidelines to "call the ball" and to "MOVE!!!!" and "what the heck are you doing???!!" but I can't. LOL I have to remember this is the YMCA. Shelby has a VERY busy summer planned with volleyball. Beginning with this week, Shelby has volleyball camp at SFA (woo-hoo!! can't wait to visit SFA again!), Rice University, her school, and another YMCA week. SFA and Rice will be quite intense and she is very much looking forward to it. So far, so good (knock on wood) her foot/ankle has been holding up great!!!
(Her friend Casey from school came to cheer Shelby on!)

Spring 2016 volleyball
Shelby's back to playing volleyball at the YMCA for the spring. She's determined to make varsity VB this fall so she's refreshing her skills and will be attending several volleyball camps and clinics this summer. YMCA VB isn't anything like her school VB. It's not near intense but it's good for her to keep working on her skills.

Last game of the VB season.
Today was the last game of Shelby's VB season. They closed it out with a great win. The crew is taking a break for the summer and will pick back up in September in the next higher age bracket. I hope to get her in some VB clinics over the summer.
